Tar & Roses, the ultra-popular Andrew Kirschner restaurant in Santa Monica, is still closed despite a "minor" fire back in mid-June that was supposed to set the place back only a short period. However, the repairs are taking longer than expected, and Kirschner told Eater that they're not really sure when they'll be able to open the eatery again.

At this point, the process doesn't just involve the repairs, it includes some insurance companies who disputing certain things, which never helps expedite a speedy recovery. Finally, the city of Santa Monica's rather notorious permitting system is pushing back the opening date.

The restaurant is apologetic to fans who are aching for more of that market-fresh cooking and expertly prepared charcuterie. It's best to keep a keen eye on their social media channels for a possible re-opening.

Another small casualty, Johnnie Jenkins, who had been with the restaurant since opening three and a half years ago, has parted ways to take some time off. Tar & Roses has no plans to replace him at this point.
