Highland Park hasn’t completely fallen into the hands of the $12 green juice crowd just yet, as evidenced by the incoming Taco Fix restaurant on Figueroa.
The Eastsider first picked up on the new restaurant, speaking to a manager there who said the tacos were still about a month out. Inside, the papered-over former medical clinic is in the midst of some heavy construction, but with designs on becoming a simple neighborhood classic kind of spot. Soft-opening could come soon enough though, with a full unveiling targeted for August 31.
Of course, that stretch of Figueroa is not without its share of recent turnover at the hands of rising rents and changing demographics. Kitchen Mouse, a cutesy near-vegan spot with a mean weekend brunch game, has been across the street for just over a year, while upscale cafe/bakery La Monarca plans to expand into the area as well.
Add on all the nearby coffee that’s coming, and Highland Park is still deep in the throes of great change. Hopefully there’s room for at least one more great taco place, though.
