West Third vege-heads have been all over sweetgreen since it first opened back in May. The DC-based salad shop has been as highly anticipated as just about any new concept coming to Los Angeles in the past year, and there are already construction crews working to bring their second location in Santa Monica to life.
Now comes word of a third, thanks to sharp-eyed Downtowner Brigham Yen. The new location is set to be a major part of a larger overhaul of the existing 8th and Hill intersection, which will see current club tenant The Vault head for the exits. In its place will come a lighter, glassier corner retail space, and along the 8th Street side will be sweetgreen.
As Yen notes, it’s sure to be an interesting location for the healthy-eating concept, with the inbound Downtown Whole Foods set up not far away, and a travelers hostel aimed for right across the street in 2016. The shop’s space, at 3,300 square feet, should mean plenty of room for an influx of new lunchers, as well as the usual run of hungry office workers come down to eat as well.
Just don’t expect this Sweetgreen to open any time soon. The company, thanks to backing from big-wigs like Danny Meyer and Daniel Boulud, is expanding at an incredible rate, but with a need for some serious construction on the space, there’s hope for a late 2015 arrival at the earliest.
