A sad moment for all last night as a multi-car collision sent customers at Gardena’s Donut King 2 scattering. The serious crash put at least one of the cars inside the building, and sent five to the hospital.
The scary scene unfolded around 7:30 p.m. last night at the intersection of Western and Marine Avenue, where the longtime walk-up and drive-thru doughnut stand sits. Besides the morning sugar rush, the shop is primarily known for its looming doughnut signage — similar to the one found at Randy’s Donuts, but without the acclaim (as it can’t be seen by heading to LAX).
Reporters quickly hit the scene, with photos and video showing a white sedan that had come to rest inside of the stand, while a smashed SUV sat crumpled alongside. KTLA reported late last evening that one of the injured drivers had died as a result of the terrible incident, and today the shop of course remains closed and battered.
Scary intersection collisions have seemingly been on the rise lately, often sending cars careening through the front of restaurants. Osteria Mozza landed a truck through their front door not long ago, and a Mid-City Chipotle was the scene of an even more recent crash after a car failed to navigate a tricky turn.
