August is gearing up, as always, to be one seriously hot month for the San Fernando Valley. At least for Tarzana, that means some much-needed ice cream.

Enter Wanderlust Creamery, a one-off handmade ice cream shop situating itself — in a bit of schadenfreude — inside a former Coldstone Creamery on Ventura Boulevard. The shop is currently in heavy build-out mode, but has plans to open to the public next month.

Interestingly enough, Wanderlust is being led by Adrienne Borlongan, a former cocktail consultant from the Hyde/SBE universe. The plan is to create globally-influenced flavors right on site, without the help of an ice cream base. That means getting certified by the state to pasteurize in-house, which apparently they’ve already done. Pretty crazy.
