Chef Eric Park continues to flip concepts, most recently at his Downtown sandwich space Hero Shop, which for a while was doing good work as a mostly lunchtime operation serving some late night chicken and rice before deciding to relaunch as Ohana Poké Co. Now he’s turning off the lights at his even more well-known restaurant Black Hogg in Silver Lake as well, with plans to re-up that location as well.
At Hero Shop, Park decided that Downtown was lacking some marinated Hawaiian fish, and so along came the poké concept , which he actually got up and running in a matter of days, not weeks.
Now he plans to bring the same Ohana Poké Co. concept to Silver Lake, turning the sit-down neighborhood favorite into an even more casual spot for some raw fish. On the Black Hogg website, Park left a post detailing the changeover, mostly saying that running a restaurant is not exactly conducive to having two small children at home, so he'll be focusing on family for now. When they’re big enough to work the dishwasher, he promises that Black Hogg will return in one form or another.
Regular service at Black Hogg officially ends this Sunday night, at which point the address will transform into a second location of Ohana (which, aptly enough, means family). Park is quick to point out that Sopressata, his concept-within-a-concept lunchtime sandwich shop that’s been running out of Black Hogg during the day (and is exceedingly popular), isn’t going anywhere.
