Bella Julia Cafe Brings Quality Baked Goods to the Heart of Hollywood

A wholesome, affordable eatery in Hollywood.

Matthew Kang is the Lead Editor of Eater LA. He has covered dining, restaurants, food culture, and nightlife in Los Angeles since 2008. He's the host of K-Town, a YouTube series covering Korean food in America, and has been featured in Netflix's Street Food show.

Officially opened yesterday, Bella Julia Cafe and Bakery is now whipping up fresh baked goods right along Cahuenga and Ivar in Hollywood. Founders Steven and Chaza Smith blend Southern Italian and French influences for breakfast through dinner service using sustainable ingredients.

The mornings comprise Groundwork Coffee, fresh pastries, biscuits, waffles, and eggs while lunchtime means more substantial plates like eggplant parm and roast turkey sandwiches. Dinner doesn't quite break any molds, but serves comfort fare like pappardelle bolognese and slow roasted pork. Taking over the former Village Pizzeria, the Smiths sold their home to open this restaurant, and that mom-and-pop aesthetic comes through with this production. Hours run 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily.
