Burgerlords Brings the Cult of the Hamburger to Chinatown's Central Plaza Next Month

A Tumblr account turns into a full-fledged restaurant.

Farley Elliott is the Senior Editor at Eater LA and the author of Los Angeles Street Food: A History From Tamaleros to Taco Trucks. He covers restaurants in every form, from breaking news to the culture, people, and history that surrounds LA's dining landscape.

Chinatown continues to boil over with great new eating options, including a brand new burger spot from none other than Frederick and Maximilian Guerrero. The brothers, who previously worked for their father Andre Guerrero at The Oinkster and run an exceedingly popular Tumblr account dedicated to all things beef and bun, are deep in the works with their first restaurant titled, fittingly, Burgerlords.

The name matches that of their online work, and hopes to bring into the real world the brothers’ love of burgers. Right now, the duo — along with partner Kevin Hockin — are working on outfitting their Central Plaza location, and in the meantime are hosting a Burgerlords pop-up on Thursday at the Highland Park gallery space they co-own called Slow Culture.

That event should give people a first glimpse into the Burgerlords menu, and will also let guests be entered into a raffle to literally win free burgers for a year once their restaurant comes to life. Not a bad deal.

As for the space itself, it’s going to be underneath Ooga Booga and right next to Wonder Bakery, which should be a pretty awesome location foot traffic-wise. It'll also be crafted by the Design, Bitches team, whose aesthetic would certainly seem to fit the ethos of the Burgerlords team. Expect mostly walk-up window service with lots of patio seating, with a menu focused on burgers, fries, and handmade sodas.

Add in the very, very near arrival of Pok Pok, and suddenly Chinatown is, somehow, even hotter than ever before.
