Even Bay Cities has valet now
Ugh, just when you thought there were a few safe havens in the city to escape those 1%-ers, here comes weekend valet service to Bay Cities Deli in Santa Monica. Run by on-demand valet app Luxe, the option will be offered from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
ERB Opening Friday in Arts District
Lauded as one of the most anticipated openings in Los Angeles this fall, ERB (short for Everson Royce Bar) is opening on Friday with Matt Molina at the helm and Varnish barman Chris Oreja at the stick. LA Times has some more details on the offerings.
Another day, another sushi spot opening in Beverly Hills
While Italian fare might be the most popular in the Golden Triangle, L'Amande's surrender in the 90210 means another sushi spot can take over a valued piece of real estate. Toddrickallen reports that the prosaic Yu-N-Mi sushi and robata is going into the failed bakery (which had some HR problems) space with a reported late fall opening.
Horse Thief upgrades its patio
One of the sneaky-best patios for Downtown dining, Horse Thief BBQ at Grand Central Market is updating their look through today and tomorrow. Expect reopening hours on Friday (not that you were trying to eat outside yesterday when it was raining anyway).
The Little Door Santa Monica turns one
It seems like forever ago that the city's beloved West Third hideaway expanded into Santa Monica, but now here we are. To celebrate, the restaurant is doing a three-course prix fixe menu option now through the rest of the month for $75, which includes a half Maine lobster as an appetizer! There's also rack of lamb and wild salmon as mains, etc.
Women in kitchens: why we still need to talk about it
From Toronto's Kitchen Bitches conference, First We Feast reports on the state of patriarchy in the modern kitchen. Women like Jessica Koslow of Sqirl joined in on the panel, drawing parallels between physically open kitchen spaces and open communication lines between staff, both male and female.
It's like a mini Westside food festival
Popular video app Tastemade is launching a new travel series called Gallivant!, and so to promo the thing they're pulling in a ton of favors for a one night, $40, all-inclusive party at their Santa Monica studio space. Howlin' Rays, Jon & Vinny's, Alma, Broken Spanish, Starry Kitchen and more will be there, plus beer and cocktails from Michael Lay and others. Get tickets here for the Thursday, September 24 event.
And now an actual Eastside food festival
Early bird tickets for the October 18 Eastside Food Festival are on sale until noon today. If you think you're going, might as well save $20 now for access to cocktails and bites from some of the Eastside's most prominent players. The event is on Sunday, October 18 at Mack Sennett Studios.
