It was just a week ago when we found out that celebrity cake master Duff Goldman and the pasta extraordinaire behind Union and upcoming Knead and Co. Pasta Bar Bruce Kalman were in an honest-to-God band. Well the frontmen must have gotten plenty of jam time in, because their band Foie Grock is about to put on their first gig.
This Thursday, October 1, the alternative rock cover band will perform at Room 5 above Amalfi restaurant on La Brea at 11 pm. The band, which also consists of drummer Francis Castagnetti, guitarist Ben Offenberg (Resy), and keyboardist Jeff Liffmann, all seasoned industry pros, intends to fuse the worlds of food and music together for their version of Rock and (Dinner) Roll(s).
How did this merging of the worlds come about? Goldman and Kalman were standing next to each other at an event when they were told they looked like they were in a band, to which Kalman replied, "Well, I do sing and play the guitar," and Duff added, "I play the bass!" The rest is Fois Grock history.
