Those sweetgreen folks know how to keep LA interested
Recent Los Angeles addition sweetgreen has been welcomed with open arms by greens-lovers citywide, but they’ve also been playing their cards right by cozying up to some of the city’s most popular chefs. Case in point: their newest menu item is a $10 collaboration with the ultra-hot Jon & Vinny’s team. It’s a chopped romaine salad laced with a sumac dressing and a side of za’atar pita chips — possibly the hippest current ingredients going — and gives off the air of being so absolutely of-the-moment it almost hurts. Still, $10 ain’t bad.
Big changes at Superba Snack Bar?
That's the word from Toddrickallen, who overheard some kitchen gossip a while back relating to new hire Sydney Hunter III. Apparently the menu is in for a serious overhaul, from breakfast through dinner, with a possible focus on seafood and vegetables. Of course, that's all just post-shift talk so far.
Otium's kitchen is almost ready
Just about everyone's getting excited for Otium, the new Broad Museum-adjacent spot from chef Timothy Hollingsworth. Already there's been movie trailers, aspirational videos, and lots of construction sightings, but now things seem to really be firming up. Just look at this photo of the massive new kitchen, which is still under wraps but looks pretty formalized for a place that was just construction cranes and steel beams a few months ago.
The Southland gets great at GABF
Denver’s annual Great American Beer Fest (GABF, for short) wrapped up over the weekend, and yesterday LA Weekly took a look at all the big winners. Los Angeles proper got a little lost in the shuffle, but the greater LA area — including TAPS Fish House & Brewery in Orange County, which won Mid-Size Brewpub of the Year — held up nicely, bringing home plenty of medals in various categories.
Dave's Chillin' keeps on Grillin'
Eagle Rock highlight Dave's Chillin'-n-Grillin' is in the midst of celebrating their 10 year anniversary, but they aren't letting all the partying slow them down. Instead, as LA Mag learns, there are future plans for a food truck, sports bar add-on, and possibly even an expansion of the existing eatery to new locations. Sounds like a busy next decade.
Half-off coffee at La Brea's all-day Thai spot
The former Kinaree Thai Bistro got caught up in a fire but returned as Otus Thai Kitchen, with a focus on all-day fare and redone Thai classics. And now today here they are, celebrating what is apparently National Coffee Day with 50% off any coffee drink
Go shopping with Ari Taymor
Or, rather, watch Alma’s Ari Taymor and Ashleigh Parsons go shopping at the Santa Monica farmers market, per this new video from Westwood Westwood.
