After much delay, The Brixton in Santa Monica finally opened its doors this past weekend. The casual gastropub focuses on small plates but plans to unleash a full set of entrees in the coming weeks. Some of The Brixton's notable aspects include opening year round with a daily happy hour from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Also, there's free parking for restaurant customers, an increasing rarity in Santa Monica.

As for the food menu, veggie dishes are highlighted with roasted carrots, grilled veggie salads, and a mushroom toast with maple balsamic, goat cheese and currants. Don't worry meat lovers; options include beef cheek with a parsnip mash, and a short rib poutine with gravy and chives.

Besides a full bar, the eatery carries draft beers and wines on tap in temperature-controlled storage, keeping it fresh. Otherwise, you can order a OneHope bottle of wine, with half of each bottle's profit designated to a non-profit organization.

The Brixton is open for lunch and dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday and opened until midnight Friday and Saturday. Eventually, the gastropub hopes to add brunch and stay open until midnight every night. With no other restaurants open late in the area, could The Brixton snag a late night crowd?
