Brentwood is on the rise, thanks to a new location of Jesse Gomez’s casual Mexican spot Maradentro (which debuted its first location in Studio City earlier this year), slated to arrive by the new year.
The location is one with some (not so great) history, as Maradentro plots to take over the short-lived Cafe Rockenwagner on the corner of Wilshire and Barrington. That space only just officially bit the dust back in July, but had been on shaky ground basically ever since pastry master Cesar Bermudez took off.
So now Gomez and executive chef/partner Jose Acevedo step in to make the place whole again. Their Cocinas y Calaveras restaurant group has already had success with one Maradentro in Studio City, as well as the Mercados in Santa Monica/Third Street/Hollywood, plus Yxta Cocina Downtown. With this Brentwood outpost, the plan is to bring those same seafood flavors to life in an 1,800 square foot space, patio and all.
That will take some time, so Gomez and his team are likely looking at a January 1 arrival. Nonetheless, the Ana Henton-designed space should be a welcome addition to the neighborhood, even with the traffic and occasional parking woes in the area.
