Inside Button Mash, Echo Park's Craft Beer and Arcade Nirvana

Starry Kitchen will do the food menu.

Matthew Kang is the Lead Editor of Eater LA. He has covered dining, restaurants, food culture, and nightlife in Los Angeles since 2008. He's the host of K-Town, a YouTube series covering Korean food in America, and has been featured in Netflix's Street Food show.

Why should you be excited for Button Mash, this fantastic new arcade bar in Echo Park later this month? That's an absurd question, but just in case: Starry Kitchen food, 12 craft beers on tap, quality wine, and a curated set of vintage arcade machines. So with a draft pint of beer, down some fermented tofu peanut beer snacks. Chomp on a classic no-frills burger with garlic noodles while sipping wine; dig into a veggie/vegan braised coca-cola jackfruit sandwich or tamarind chili chicken wings before playing some pinball; or polish off a plate of fried rice after playing Forgotten Worlds with your friends.

The minimalist look comes via Design, Bitches, laying out 90 seats across a main dining room, bar, and communal tables. Hours run until midnight on weekdays, 2 a.m. on weekends, so show up with a crew and hang out a bit. In the near future, expect a weekend brunch, which means you can avert those bottomless mimosas on the patio and drain your laundry quarters with style. Owners Jordan Weiss and Gabriel Fowlkes, along with Starry Kitchen's Thi and Nyugen Tran produce this slick new nightlife spot in Echo Park, slated to open officially in the next few weeks.
