Here comes Salt & Straw Venice, the latest outpost in the Portland ice cream brand’s attempts to take over Southern California. Much like their big-hit first location, which landed in Larchmont more than a year ago, the second shop is expected to draw lines around the block, even with El Niño coming in hard.
The corner address sits at the intersection of Abbot Kinney and California Avenue, and has been completely retrofitted to fit the chef-driven ice cream company’s aesthetic, thanks to Osmose Design. There's the colorful striping, the blonde wood accents, and the loads of natural light. Of course there's also lots of room for ice cream, including from a takeaway cooler should customers in the neighborhood decide they just want to bring home a pint.
If the Westside isn't your thing, you can always hold out for their upcoming Arts District location, which should arrive sometime in the next few months. After that it's on to Studio City, meaning sometime soon just about anyone in Los Angeles will be no more than a few miles for any given Salt & Straw location. The Venice location on Abbot Kinney opens tomorrow, and will keep daily 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. hours.
