John Sparr Tavern Lands in Former Village Pub Space in Montrose

Construction is underway.

Montrose (well, North Glendale technically) is still on the move, following earlier news this week that Epic Taco Shop had set up inside the former Bountiful Bakery space on Verdugo Road. Not far away, another concept is coming, this one called John Sparr Tavern.

The previous iteration at this address on Ocean View was a low-key neighborhood spot called The Village Pub, which faded away a few years back after more than 50 years in business. Now the Sparr is well on its way, though construction is in the heavy phases at the moment. Judging by these in-process photos from Facebook, they took the building basically down to the brick exterior walls.

No too much else is known about the project at the moment, though there is a Type 47 ABC license tacked to the address. The owners (based on this surrendered ABC license for the previous Village Pub) appear to be the same, and there’s a tiny bit of paperwork with the city of Glendale on the build-out that dates back to 2014, though it mostly pertains to parking adjustments.

When John Sparr Tavern does open, likely sometime in the summer, expect all-day hours with alcohol sales on weekdays running until 11 p.m. and expanding to 1 a.m. on weekends; there will be also be a larger focus on food. And though the above rendering doesn’t show it, expect an outdoor patio as well.
