Recess Eatery Is Highland Park's Stunning New Pub for the Masses

Open today.

Take a look inside Highland Park’s newest sit down dinner spot Recess Eatery, which opened just yesterday along York Boulevard. The long-gestating space is the work of owner and chef Sevan Abdessian (along with partner Tamar Kevonian) and longtime restaurant builders Spacecraft Design.

The dormant space has been completely revitalized, with open brick wrapping the room and a tall ceiling that shows off the bow truss architecture of the 5,000 square foot space. Out back, a patio sits beneath string lights and a couple of olive trees, while a working fireplace anchors the end.

The menu at Recess Highland Park is the same as the Glendale original, which means lots of Mediterranean nods throughout the dinner plates and weekend brunch items. Truly though, this is California cuisine at its most straightforward: spinach tagliatelle, braised short ribs, and kale salads galore, with pancakes and eggs for the mornings.

Now that Recess is open as of yesterday, expect weekday evening-only hours from 5 p.m. to midnight, with extended hours until 1 a.m. on weekends. Eventually, expect daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
