On Sunday, January 31, whole-grain activist and Japanese culinary expert Sonoko Sakai is setting up shop in The Restaurant within The Standard Downtown LA. During a soba making workshop from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sakai will teach the ancient art of creating the perfect buckwheat soba and dashi broth. $125 tickets include a full soba dinner and three servings of noodles to take home.
Not interested in getting your hands dirty floury? Beginning at 6 p.m., Sakai will host a Slurp pop-up for those who prefer to learn with their taste buds. For $30 per person, it's quite a deal for a lesson in Japanese cuisine by Sakai, the grain enthusiast behind Common Grains, a project dedicated to sharing the appreciation for whole grains and Japanese cuisine.
