Los Angeles’s love affair with breakfast may have just reached its zenith, thanks to Westside newcomer The Chicken or the Egg. The cutely-named morning destination in Playa Vista combines all-day AM favorites with a bright, comfortable space that’s sure to encourage Angelenos to stick to eggs from now on.

The all-day introduction of breakfast at The Chicken or the Egg is a smart move for this tech-focused Silicon Beach stretch of the city, where long hours make for hungry diners. Open daily with hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., the restaurant hopes to wrangle in early risers and late afternoon diners alike with a mix of morning features like steak and eggs, benedicts, and straight plates of breakfast meat and eggs.

For the lunch and dinner set, expect salads and lots of poultry, from fried chicken sandwiches to buckets of bird served with sides ranging from sweet potato waffle fries to maple brussels sprouts. Coffee, orange juice, lemonade, and iced tea round out the drinks side of things.

As for the space, The Chicken or the Egg is a bright new entrant into the area, with industrial touches that feed off the high ceilings and open room. Warm yellow stools and and blonde wood tables keep the space light, while leather chairs and couches deliver a lounge-y vibe for anyone interested in sinking into a seat past 10 a.m.

Mendocino Farms alum Sean Krajewski is behind The Chicken or the Egg, which is now soft open in Playa Vista with a grand opening scheduled for this Saturday. The full menu is below.
