East Coast transplant Van Leeuwen Ice Cream has made another home for itself here in Los Angeles, quietly opening up their Franklin Village shop over the weekend. The smallish storefront was for years a clothing boutique, but now serves quality ice cream to the hipkids and Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre regulars out front.
The storefront has been completely remade into a glassy, wood-wrapped enclave for desserts on those warm fall evenings. There’s a small retail section as well inside the Bunch Designs-made space, as well as room for espressos and organic Rishi teas. Of course just about everyone is here for the ice cream though, with a slew of regular and vegan options available, plus floats, sundaes, and milkshakes.
Van Leeuwen soft-opened on Saturday in Franklin Village, and is now keeping Sunday through Thursday hours from 8 a.m. to midnight, with an extension to 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. The ice cream makers currently also enjoy a truck and two brick and mortar locations (in the Arts District and in Culver City, respectively) across the city.
