The booming Hollywood Boulevard stretch in Los Feliz is set to get a little busier today, with the arrival of McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams to the strip. Taking over the other half of the completely rehabbed building that also houses the new Go Get Em Tiger, the slick scoop shop softly debuts today, but will be going big with a grand opening in a couple of weeks.

This latest location of McConnell’s (the first true Southern California option landed inside Grand Central Market in 2014) should offer perhaps the most impressive look yet at what the Central Coast ice cream brand is capable of. Offing a simple but inventive menu of straightforward flavors as well as unexpected options like cardamom & gingersnap, this new outlet is destined to appeal to the ice cream-hungry masses of the Eastside. After all, there’s already a Jeni’s not far away, plus the quirky Churro Borough around the corner.

As for the shop itself, expect clean lines and a slightly nostalgic feel, as the place calls to mind an old school ice cream shop filled with gleaming tile. This is the place to come get a scoop in a cone after a Little League game, or to head in after dinner with friends for a couple of milkshakes — which you then drink on the big, beautiful patio outside, of course.

With the arrival of McConnell’s, there’s becoming a key new dining strip in Los Feliz to rival anything that Silver Lake or Highland Park has to offer. From HomeState to Bar Covell to Go Get Em Tiger and the soon-to-arrive Kismet, this new core strip provides high walkability and tons of options for eating well. Adding all-day ice cream can only help.

McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams officially opens today in Los Feliz as a complement to their existing locations at Grand Central Market and in Studio City. This outlet of McConnell’s will be keeping hours from 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. most nights, with an extension to 11:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. An official grand opening is slated for December 1, when the company will be dishing out free scoops between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.
