It’s Wahlburgers time in Los Angeles, as the celebrity-backed East Coast fast casual chain plans to make early inroads into the LA burger market with a new location along Sunset Boulevard. The West Hollywood outlet will likely be the first for the quickly franchising brand, hitting the prime Sunset Plaza area sometime in 2017.

Per a tipster, the first Wahlburgers in Southern California is headed into the current Cafe Med space that wraps the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Sunset Plaza Drive. That intel is backed up by this ABC license under the name Tinseltown Sunset LLC, which points to the name Robert Azinian, a man allied with the Wahlburgers corporation, and a call to Cafe Med directly confirms that the Wahlburgers team has bought the building in order to eventually flip it. It’s important to note that in the meantime Cafe Med remains open, and will be operating as usual for the next six months or so.

The rise of Wahlburgers in greater Los Angeles comes at an interesting time, as fast casual chains have begun to proliferate across the city. That’s especially true for burger options, as newcomers like Burgerim keep expanding while Shake Shack still has a few other locations (in Century City, for example) to come.

It’s also a particular moment for the Sunset Plaza strip directly, as the area was once a high-end dining destination catering mostly to wealthy locals in the area. Now though, after a number of shutters up and down the Strip, things are going decidedly more casual along the boulevard.

No word yet on when Wahlburgers will officially take over and start serving up their signature celebrity burgers, but expect something late in 2017.
