Rest assured, Silver Lake, your long-awaited restaurant replacement for the former Nicky D’s Pizza on Rowena is almost here. Now called Wolfdown, the casual dinner spot is set to open as soon as next week.

If you’ve driven past with any regularity lately, you assuredly have noticed the flurry of construction happening at the funky space near Glendale Boulevard. That’s all Jason and Chrissy Kim, the owners of nearby Forage, also in Silver Lake. They’ve had the Wolfdown space since 2013, and have been working slowly since then on a space that would bring more casual dining to the busy boulevard. Now Wolfdown is set to be ready by Tuesday, most likely, keeping evening hours from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The menu is still being tweaked, but expect a lineup of options similar to what you’ll find at Forage. That means seasonal fare with a heavy lean on vegetables, and more than a few Asian influences along the way. And yes, there will still be more than a couple of wood-fired dishes on the menu.

As for the space, expect cozy seating for 30 inside (including nearly a dozen at the bar), with another full 30 seats out on the patio. The place seems to carry that effortless Silver Lake vibe, with charming touches, plenty of exposed wood, and lots of windows for a more open feel.

Custom benches being installed.

Wolfdown’s arrival on Tuesday should bring a sigh of relief to the lips of the Kim family as well as the many locals patiently waiting for the place to open up. Neighborhood council meetings as recent as this past spring kept the restaurant in limbo, with nearby residents poking around at parking issues, noise ordinances, and menu prices for the place. That’s all been sorted out now, leaving only the exciting opening to come.
