Rather than carry two locations, the team will consolidate around the newer one.

In a surprising turn of events, it looks like Recess in Glendale will be closing its doors as of this coming weekend, as owner Sevan Abdessian says he’d like to focus efforts on the company’s new Highland Park location.

That new address, right on York Boulevard, has been a long time coming — and it’s no wonder Abdessian would like to start spending more time there. The Spacecraft build-out has been fitted with high ceilings, loads of brick, and plenty of natural light, which means more room for Abdessian to spread his culinary wings, particularly with the catering wing of his operation. There are also plans to launch lunch and breakfast at Recess in Highland Park in the coming weeks.

Still, it’s going to be a sad day in Glendale once Recess leaves following Valentine’s Day service this weekend. The popular all-day destination anchored Brand Boulevard for seven years, bringing fine-casual dining to the city. Of course, there’s an increasing amount of positive competition coming into that neighborhood to help cheer up the locals — including their very own Shake Shack, arriving later this year.
