Winsome Is Echo Park's Loveliest Newcomer

New, 1 comment

A truly wonderful design.

Matthew Kang is the Lead Editor of Eater LA. He has covered dining, restaurants, food culture, and nightlife in Los Angeles since 2008. He's the host of K-Town, a YouTube series covering Korean food in America, and has been featured in Netflix's Street Food show.

In what might be the biggest new opening in Echo Park this year, Winsome takes over the ground floor of the towering Elysian building along Sunset Blvd beginning this morning. With a sweet interior boasting a diner motif and an elegant neighborhood feel, the Spare Room team has outdone itself here.

Jeremy Strubel, formerly of Rustic Canyon, oversees an modern American menu with things like harissa chicken salad sandwiches and semolina pancakes with seasonal preserves. A rockfish broil and braised beef cheek will eventually helm the dinner menu, while pastries and desserts come via Republique vet Leslie Mialma.

That lovely interior comes from Wendy Haworth Design (Gracias Madre), and the inside-outside space accommodates 75 people, plus 16 at the counter. Simply put, is there a better looking restaurant opening this year in Echo Park?

Hours run 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with dinner slated for later this year.
