Here comes a third turn for the former Downtown Johnny’s location in Sherman Oaks, which lasted for less than a year after previously pivoting from similarly short-lived concept Murph’s. If that all sounds confusing and a bit hectic, you’re not alone. Now to make sense of it all is City Sports Lounge, a decidedly more low-key approach to the neighborhood that will focus on TV screens, booze, and all things sports-related.
There’s new ABC paperwork up at the site already, and this nascent Facebook page calls the forthcoming concept a "great sports venue with great food, drinks, and music." They also tick off the requisite lounge/sports-watching details that will be available on site, from live DJs on weekends to nine total televisions and two projector screens. There’s going to be a raucous Ventura Boulevard-facing patio, too.
You’ll also find some in-progress shots of the coming City Sports interior, which will apparently be draped in heavy blues and prominently feature a hand-painted mural wherein the word ‘CITY’ is outfitted with a Statue of Liberty and a sloshing martini glass.
No word yet on further specifics like a menu or opening date, but City Sports Lounge is already well underway. It wouldn’t be surprising to have this place up and running by late spring, which would only add to the sudden uptick of highly casual concepts moving into former Richard DiSisto-owned spaces in Sherman Oaks.
