Wondering what's been up with Trejo's Tacos on La Brea, which anticipated an opening sometime in mid-January but still sits forlornly vacant as of this very moment? You're not alone (just check their inundated Facebook page) in being curious, but now here's some good news: Trejo's Tacos will come to life this week.
That's according to a rep for the restaurant, at least. They've mostly been suspiciously mum on what the hold up might be, but this new social media post seems to indicate that an arrival is indeed imminent. So what happened?
Well, the City of Los Angeles happened, for one. As anyone who's tried to kickstart a personal restaurant enterprise can attest, the city has some unique ways of showing it cares about the little guy. Case in point for Trejo's Tacos: this ongoing permit nightmare that mostly centered around the restaurant's trellis, of all things.
The Department of Building and Safety had been holding off on giving the okay to actor Danny Trejo and his team for weeks, only coming through with a final (and apparently approved) inspection on March 1. Trejoy's had to tear down that trellis completely, but it should enable to them to start making tacos post haste.
Of course, this isn't the first time Trejo's has come under fire for putting the excitement cart ahead of the reality horse. Just about a year ago there were similar calls for more information on when, if ever, the place was going to actually open. Now, some two years after first being announced, it seems we may all finally get to enjoy Danny Trejo's unique brand of tacos after all.
