Michael Voltaggio's Sack Sandwiches Re-Opens on Melrose

New, 6 comments

The reformatted ink.sack has returned

Farley Elliott is the Senior Editor at Eater LA and the author of Los Angeles Street Food: A History From Tamaleros to Taco Trucks. He covers restaurants in every form, from breaking news to the culture, people, and history that surrounds LA's dining landscape.

You may not have even noticed, but there was a brief switcheroo a couple of weeks back at Michael Voltaggio sought to reformat and rebrand his casual sandwich interprise from ink.sack into what we now know to be Sack Sandwiches. That meant opening up his new Sunset Boulevard location while simultaneously closing the Melrose outpost so it could get an updated menu and a fresh look. Well as of today, the Melrose address is back up and running.

Stopping in around midday the place was already buzzing, with regulars and newcomers alike drawn in by the colorful new branding initiative. Mostly the place is the same ol', same ol', except with bright yellow touches and an expanded menu board that includes some of Voltaggio's newest creations. The Top Chef winner was on hand himself for a time, working over the new menu details with staffers in the back.

So now if you want to try the chef's fast casual brand of sandwiches, you'll have at least two outlets to choose from — Melrose and Sunset — though there certainly seems to be plans to grow, grow, grow as time goes along. Expect the Melrose location to keep the same hours as before: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
