Four & Twenty Blackbirds lands in LA

NYC bakery mavens Four & Twenty Blackbirds is popping up at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams in Los Feliz today, promising to bring their Brooklyn-leaning pies to the West Coast masses. The collaboration effort runs all weekend, as the piemakers sell whole pies and slices with sides of Jeni’s ice cream.

Palm Desert Food & Wine is almost here

Just before Coachella (April 8 to 10 to be specific), you might want to sneak out to Palm Desert. It’s still quiet-ish then, and that’s precisely when the Palm Desert Food & Wine festival will be going on, featuring chefs like Ricardo Zarate, Cat Cora, and more. The James Beard team will be on hand doing a four-course lunch ($125), and there’s a general admission grand tasting both Saturday and Sunday that runs around $100 apiece.

All the tacos from this year’s Taco Madness tournament

Over at L.A. Taco, the annual Taco Madness tournament has been raging pretty fiercely, with contenders getting knocked out left and right (we won’t spoil anything here). The best food in Monterey, CA

The Jon & Vinny’s team flew to Pebble Beach Food & Wine just to eat at … a Benihana? Looks like it.

Brouwerij West expands hours

San Pedro brewery standout Brouwerij West is expanding their hours, now running Thursday through Sunday until 9 p.m. They’ve got food trucks landing every night they’re open as well, and the taproom and courtyard areas open at noon on Saturday and Sunday. On Sundays, you’ll even be able to get chorizo from the famous Chori-Man, who grills up outside.

The Downtown Breakfast Club awards are in

Not familiar with the Downtown Breakfast Club? You should be. This loose group of developers and business folks have been working for years to shape Downtown, all the while handing out Lemons and Roses at their annual awards ceremony. The big winners this year? RiceBar for best restaurant, ERB for best bar, plus a sort of special recognition category called Game Changers that went to Clifton’s.

LA’s best new burgers

Zagat has put together a tasty lil’ list of great new burgers to try around Los Angeles, leading of course with the Roadside Double from the brand new Shake Shack. You might also enjoy the Charcoal Burger from Charcoal in Venice, or the almost instantly iconic option from Matt Molina at ERB.
