Society Kitchen Takes Over Defunct Native Foods in Santa Monica

A quick flip on the Westside

Though the death of Native Foods Cafe on Ocean Park Boulevard is still being felt among the health and wellness set in Santa Monica, there’s word of a new tenant moving in. Apparently one Eiman Shekarchi, who already owns Crimson next door, finds the place desirable enough to put in some work.

The new info is now publicly available via this ABC license, which just came online a few days ago. With it, Shekarchi hopes to secure beer and wine for a previously unknown concept titled Society Kitchen. While at the moment there isn’t much online in regards to the newcomer, Shekarchi himself is a known commodity. Not only does he run the next door Crimson restaurant, but he and his team are also behind the popular Sidewalk Grill in Los Feliz.

Native Foods, you’ll recall, has been heading down the opposite path, shuttering outlets as it hopes to reconsolidate and rebrand. Late last year, company chairman Michael Nack himself confirmed the company’s issues of staying relevant in the growing health food restaurant space. Regardless, it’s nice to see their former outlet on Ocean Park come back to life — now the rest is waiting for Society Kitchen to arrive.
