Though roving chef Evan Funke’s long-awaited Bucato follow-up Felix is still in heavy construction mode on Abbot Kinney, you can start to figure out the menu for yourself as soon as the end of the month. That’s when Funke will be posting up at Jon & Vinny’s on Fairfax for a one-night pop-up full of new favorites from the Italian-cooking maestro.
Most recently, Funke has been back in Italy proper, learning pizza techniques and generally taking in the food as much as the scenery. It’s a scouting trip for the upcoming Felix, with plans for the chef to return with a head full of knowledge about what to put on his new menu. He’ll get to showcase all those smarts with an $85 multi-course family-style dinner (additional $45 wine pairings are available as well) on the evening of Thursday, April 28 at Shook and Dotolo’s place along Fairfax.
There’s no official word yet on what, exactly, Funke will be serving, but it’s safe to say that pizzas will likely be involved. Jon & Vinny’s certainly has the equipment for it, and word is it’ll be a definite focus of Felix when the restaurant opens later this year. When all is said and done, Felix will play host to 100 seats, a wood-fired pizza oven and lots of live-fire cooking, as well as a glassed-in "pasta laboratorio" where Funke will showcase the art of the handmade pasta.
