It's up and running as of this very moment in the former San-Sui space

Los Feliz has yet another leg up on the coffee competition with today’s arrival of Twenty40, a new Hillhurst destination space from the McCall’s Meat & Fish folks. The space may seem familiar as the former San-Sui (the old sign is still up, even) but inside the room has been cleaned up and cleared out, making room for a growing repertoire of pastries and a full coffee program.

Beans come by way of 49th Parallel, with drinks spanning the latte, cappuccino, and flat white spectrum. There’s also hot chocolate, pressed juices, and a simple yogurt and granola option for breakfast. Otherwise it’s all about the pastries (for now at least), from kouign amann to croissants to sticky buns.

Workers on site say there are plans to expand into lunch and breakfast service down the line, and include a cold case for grab-and-go salads and sandwiches to boot. That makes sense given the full kitchen, and would help further grow the McCall’s team’s reach as a Los Feliz destination for everything from freshly butchered pork chops to coffee to easygoing midday meal options.

Twenty40 is soft open as of today, keeping hours moving forward of 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. That will likely expand as lunch comes online somewhere in the near future, though. For now, come in, grab a seat inside or on the small patio out front, and enjoy — just know they don’t plan on having wifi any time soon.
