If you thought the South Bay was already starting to get saturated with local beer options, think again. Newcomers Craft Beer Cellar, an East Coast-based bottle shop and taproom franchise, are bringing still more bottles of rare, one-off, and excessively local craft beer to market in the South Bay, and they hope to open this week at the Crossroads Shopping Center off Crenshaw.
You might recognize the name from their Eagle Rock counterpart, which opened back in November. As part of both site’s franchising agreements, the name is obviously still the same, though each franchisee is encouraged to make the place their own. Owners Ashley Davenport and Brent Bates are taking their slice, a Torrance mini-mall corner location, and turning it into a well-lit retail space for casual consumers and beer nerds alike.
However, it doesn’t seem at the moment as though the Torrance location will be able to accommodate on-site drinking, as is possible with other bottle shops throughout the South Bay (and the Eagle Rock counterpart). Instead, this ABC license is for the sale and off-premises consumption of beer only, though that could change in the future.
Still, expect Craft Beer Cellar Torrance to be a hub for the local craft beer community, as it works with more than a dozen nearby breweries and distributers alike to bring big labels to Torrance shelves, hopefully by the end of this week. An official grand opening party, running from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., is scheduled for April 23.
