It's been flip after flip for the former Piccolo restaurant location near the beach in Venice, with the short-lived Bobo only lasting a matter of months inside. Now comes a different operation altogether called Osteria Venice West, though as the name would suggest they're definitely still doing Italian food.
Chef/owner Luigi Fineo is behind the newcomer, which espouses a more casual vibe than some of the space's predecessors. They're doing pizzas in the $15 range now, as well as a variety of Italian shared plates and housemade pastas that are also priced competitively so as to hopefully draw in locals and beachgoers alike. The restaurant pours beer and wine to boot, as evidenced by this recent ABC switchover.
Interestingly enough, the name Ichiro Sakashita is still on that filing paperwork with the city, as was the case when chef Bobo Ivan was around. That means the Bobo restaurant shutter could well have had more going on than just a lack of business, as co-owner Sakashita falls in with another Italian chef to keep the storefront up and running.
Whatever the previous issues, Osteria Venice West seems keen to move on and cater to a still-hungry clientele in Venice. Hours for Osteria Venice West run 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. every night but Monday, and you can currently make reservations on OpenTable.
