Are these healthy bowls the new green juice?

While some have suggested LA might well be witnessing the end of the cold-pressed juice craze, another healthy-eating trend seems to be rising right behind it. This time its açaí bowls, courtesy in this case at least of Bowl of Heaven. The "health-casual" concept featuring açaí bowls, smoothies, and yes, even juice, is undergoing a massive expansion, adding ten locations to its name in 2016.

One of those outposts will be in Santa Monica, right at 725 Broadway off Lincoln. That means Westsiders will soon be able to dig into bowls like the North Shore, made with organic açaí, strawberries, banana, blueberries, apple juice, and MAQ 7, a proprietary blend of seven antioxidant superfruits and berries. And for those needing a further pick-me-up, there's still Bulletproof Coffee not far away.

Bowl of Heaven's rapid expansion plans come courtesy of Fransmart, the development company that is responsible for the growing empires of Five Guys, The Halal Guys, and The Pie Hole. The company currently has several existing Southern California locations, including Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, and Westlake Village, with other outlets in Utah and Wisconsin. Bowl of Heaven Santa Monica will open on April 23.
