A tipster writes in today that the original location of Real Food Daily, a longtime Santa Monica haven for vegan food, is closing at the end of the day. That marks a 24-year run for the humble, healthy food spot that's garnered plenty of support over the past two decades. The chainlet even grew to a West Hollywood, Pasadena, and LAX location (which will all remain open).
The tipster mentioned to Eater that the reason why RFD is vacating the space is a lease dispute with the landlord, a common occurrence these days in ever-busy Santa Monica, which continues to sprout new concepts and restaurants by the week. What's going to take over the prime location? Any further tips would be greatly appreciated.
Owner Ann Gentry wrote this letter as a response to the closure:
To our loyal customers:
With a heavy heart, I announce the last day of business at our Santa Monica restaurant. Wednesday, April 27th will be our final day serving Real Food Daily in our original Santa Monica location.
We are planning to re-open in a new Santa Monica location next year so stay subscribed to our email list.
In the meantime, we look forward to serving you Real Food Daily in West Hollywood, Pasadena and LAX.
Thank you for your support and patronage these past 24 wonderful years. It has been an extraordinary journey. I cherish the rich experiences, bonds and relationships I made with many of you in Santa Monica and look forward to continuing the journey.
Together, we achieved my mission of raising the standards and expectations of Vegan restaurants. Thank you for being part of it.
As always, chew well....
