Loqui has arrived in Culver City
Following a soft open period in anticipation of the arrival of Platform, the mega mixed-use complex near the Expo Line in Culver City, it looks like Loqui is now up and running with regular hours. That means lots of mesquite carne asada grilling and handmade flour tortillas galore.
California is America's craft beer mecca
As if you didn't already know, it's now all but confirmed (there are charts and everything) that California leads the way for craft beer in the U.S. Bloomberg has a nice look at the state's craft beer growth, noting that 12 of the top 50 breweries by volume are located here, with the rest spread across a consortium of 22 different states. Of course, that comes with its own set of problems.

A loss at Short Stop in Echo Park
Longtime Short Stop bartender and musician Joe Bass has died, reports LA Weekly. The beloved, friendly man was 57, and battled cancer for years. Bass was an Echo Park mainstay for years, helping to give one of the neighborhood's best bars its charm.

Chaya unveils an A-5 Wagyu menu
Running April 16 - 30 at both the Downtown and Venice locations, Chaya is planning an A-5 Wagyu feast. The coveted Japanese beef will be available in a variety of ways, from tartare to carpaccio, with some accelerated price points to match the rare ingredient. One particularly quirky option? A $35 fried rice with wagyu beef and a jidori egg.
