Tere’s Mexican Grill expands to Studio City
Melrose Mexican option Tere’s has been a big hit for years with the Hancock Park / Larchmont crowds, and now it looks like they’ll take that same menu and try their hand up in Studio City. A call to the restaurant on Melrose confirms that Tere’s will open likely by next month at 11548 Ventura Boulevard.
Westlake Village gets a ramen pop-up
Jeannine’s Gourmet Food Hall in Westlake Village is getting its own ramen pop-up as of Monday, May 31. Owner Gordon Hardey spent time in Japan years ago and now, with his food hall, hopes to offer a realistic experience comprised of mostly shoyu and miso ramen bowl options, as well as a pork chashu bowl and chicken gyoza. Chef Mako Tanaka will be overseeing the ramen preparations.
Night + Market Sahm will be opulent
Calling his third iteration of the Night + Market brand a bit of "cocaine Thai," Kris Yenbamroong tells Food & Wine that the Venice outpost will have fountains, fish tanks and marble galore. It's decadent in a kitschy way, and will come with a much more expanded menu.
A master chef social Downtown
There’s going to be one hell of a chef-driven party happening Downtown on June 11, as Patina’s Joachim Splichal is partnering with Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, Josiah Citrin, Timothy Hollingsworth, Bruce Kalman and more for an evening to raise money for RettSyndrome.org. Tickets are $300 a pop, though there are tiers above that for donations as well.
Belcampo's new spring cocktail menu
Take a look below at the new drinks menu for Belcampo in Santa Monica. The Josh Goldman-designed drinks look to capture the spring bounty, while riffing on the classics.
More to love about Howlin' Rays
Food Republic takes a peek at Howlin' Rays, talking with chef/owner Johnny Ray Zone about his first time eating Nashville-style hot chicken, and not toning down the heat for Angelenos. Oh, and it's no surprise that there are at least a dozen more Nashville hot chicken places scheduled to open soon around the United States — call it zeitgeist, or the Howlin' Rays effect.
A half-off burger at the Americana
K Ramen Burger Beer took over the second floor of the Americana’s Katsuya back in February, giving the Glendale option a more casual dining feel. To keep that party going, ownership is doing 50% off the restaurant’s signature K Burger for the whole month of May. That’s a steal, considering there’s nothing on the entire menu period that reaches over $15.
Chris Crary hits the Man vs. Child stage
In the midseason finale of Man vs. Child: Chef Showdown, former Top Chef contestant and Hyde Sunset Kitchen & Cocktails lead Chris Crary — he goes by the hilarious name Chris "Malibu" on the show, though — takes on his toughest opponent yet: a kid with a limited set of available kitchen tools. The full episode of the show airs tonight on FYI at 9 p.m.
