Portland-based ice cream makers Salt & Straw are ready to stir things up in Studio City, with a planned opening for their third location set for tomorrow.

Much like Salt & Straw’s Abbot Kinney outlet, the square footage inside this Studio City space is seriously small. The place carries an almost apothecary-like throwback feel, with one long run of glass showing off all the possible flavors, plus a single stand for merchandise like hats, Sqirl jam, and chocolate. The payment counter is at the end, there’s a takeaway pint cooler at the front, and that’s just about it.

Since opening their first scoop shop back in 2014, Salt & Straw has come to be a defining presence within the Los Angeles ice cream circles, even as that world has continued to expand and grow. Not only did East Coast-based Jeni’s arrive in Los Feliz shortly after, but even local names like McConnell’s and Mother Moo Creamery continue to expand.

Salt & Straw Studio City opens tomorrow at 10 a.m. on Ventura Boulevard, and will keep daily hours from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. moving forward.
