Little Tokyo newcomer Baldoria has been one hotly anticipated spring arrival, thanks to its unique outlook on drinking and dining. The simple space has the feel of an easygoing wine bar, but will be turning out pre-bottled cocktails and global small plates that have decidedly more flair.
Chef Duke Gervais (Cube, Pizzeria Antica) and David King (Mozza) are planning to put on a bit of a show with Baldoria, though the average guest may not realize it at first. King is doing all the cocktail work himself, which involves bottling each by hand, while imbibers may also enjoy straight pours either neat or on the rocks. There will be craft beers and wine as well, while Gervais' cooking takes on a snackier approach to everything from short rib ravioli to weekend brunch.
The simple space has been reformatted thanks to Project M+, and features a variety of options for enjoying the room. There's the long bar, lots of communal seating down the middle, and some four-tops at the opposite end for a more structured experience with friends.
Baldoria opens this Friday in Little Tokyo, keeping lunch through late night hours — including until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights — every day.
