The OG Wienerschnitzel gets its due

Did you know Wienerschnitzel is a local brand? It sure is — and now the original location in Wilmington, CA is getting the heritage treatment. The Pacific Coast Highway outlet near Long Beach is set to be listed as a historic landmark, says CBS, meaning the still-running location will be forever preserved.

These are LA's best bars

Timeout recently hosted their own LA bar awards, doling out hearty congrats to several participants, including The Spare Room for best overall bar. Birch won for their culinary talents behind the stick, while Los Feliz stalwart Big Bar earned best bar team nods.

Maple Block’s meat giveaway

Maple Block Meat Co. in Culver City has garnered quite a following, particularly for their brisket. And on Saturday (National Brisket day, apparently) they’ll be giving away brisket sandwiches to the first 20 folks who show up at the restaurant. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., so plan accordingly.

Cento Pasta at Kaldi

Loving the vibe of Cento Pasta Bar but can't find time to get Downtown? Perhaps Kaldi Coffee in Atwater is a bit closer. If so, try to make it out for a small pop-up inside the coffee shop from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. this coming Friday — details below.

Pizzeria Sapori makes the list

Newport Beach pizza option Pizzeria Sapori (one of the hottest restaurants in Orange County at the moment) has been named a top-four U.S. pizzeria by Italian magazine Gambero Rosso. It’s the only West Coast option to make the list, the restaurant says, and to celebrate the news the restaurant is doing penny glasses of wine this Sunday from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Taste of the Nation returns

Feel like eating well for charity? Taste of the Nation is the event for you. The $110 ticketed party goes down June 5 in Culver City, with proceeds benefitting No Kid Hungry. You can also get 20% off your ticket if you buy over this coming weekend using code LAMEMDAY20.

The Anchor’s Memorial Day party

Looks like The Anchor in Venice won’t be closed down for Memorial Day. Instead they’ll be cooking like crazy, rolling in the extended weekend with a two year anniversary celebration. They’re giving away 100 lobster rolls to the first folks in line on Saturday, so all you’ve gotta do is show up.

$5 spaghetti and meatballs at Knead & Co.

Starting today, Knead & Co. at Grand Central Market is doing $5 bowls of pasta every Wednesday. Their inaugural offering is some straight up Sunday gravy (that's red sauce and meatballs over spaghetti) — a hard deal to beat, even at GCM.
