You may not yet be familiar with the name Highlight Coffee, but you will be by late summer. That’s when the forthcoming specialty coffee operator plans to debut at the corner of Glendale and Broadway, adding even more fuel to the already white-hot Glendale.
It’s a prime corner location for Highlight, right across from City Hall and the bustling courthouse. Owner/operator Frank Kim, formerly the longtime GM at Demitasse in Little Tokyo, hopes to craft drinks for business types, locals, and specialty coffee aficionados alike, relying on beans from Demitasse itself as well as smaller roasters like Turning Point Coffee out of San Francisco.
Build out of the former Cafe Broadway & Deli space is currently underway, with plans for Highlight to come online sometime in late July or early August. The room is just shy of 700 square feet so don’t expect anything too massive, though there will likely be some of the usual modern aesthetic touches that have taken over the specialty coffee world in the past couple of years.
Beyond the drinks, expect pastries, tea, and possibly a light lunch offering anchored by simple grilled cheese sandwiches and soup. Kim says things are progressing along well, which means that by late summer Glendale locals should have their very own brand new specialty coffee operator to enjoy.
