Glowing Juices comes to Echo Park

Healthy spot Glowing Juices is almost ready to arrive in Echo Park, taking over the defunct El Batey on Echo Park Avenue. As Eastsider reported last year, rent had skyrocketed for the nearly 50 year old market to $6,000 a month, which allowed Glowing Juices to slip in with cold pressed juice, vegan snacks, and takeaway items like coffee, crystals, and vegan cheese. The plan is to open mid-June with daily hours from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. 1559 Echo Park Ave.

Free burgers all day at The Churchill

Want an absolutely free burger? All you’ve got to do is line up (there will probably be a line, anyway) at The Churchill tomorrow between 9 a.m. and midnight for a free namesake Churchill Burger. The West Third St. spot is celebrating national burger day (who knew?) by handing out literally hundreds of burgers — limit one per person, dine in only of course.

OpenTable's 100 best outdoor dining spots

OpenTable has crunched the numbers to give us all a look at the most popular primarily outdoor dining restaurants. Among the 100 are noted local names like Cliff's Edge and Momed in Atwater Village, plus Cafe Pinot, Gracias Madre, and Home in Los Feliz. It should surprise no one that the vast majority of listed restaurants come from the great state of California.

Providence does 11 years

It’s the 11th anniversary of Providence, and to celebrate the seafood-focused Michelin-starred restaurant is doing a four course $90 tasting menu starting May 31 and running until the end of June. The menu will change daily, but should include a few favorites from the restaurant’s run.

Coffee Commissary’s trucks are out in full force

The original Fairfax location of Coffee Commissary has for years been a safe haven for food trucks, providing early space for folks like Eggslut, Free Range, and The Rooster Truck. Of late, Coffee Commissary has instead been parking their own rigs that serve a version of the menu found at their sit-down breakfast outlet in Burbank, including egg sandwiches and other breakfast fare.

This coming Saturday though, the Fairfax truck will work up a batch of shrimp and grits (a collaboration with neighbor Cape Seafood) to sell during brunch hours only. So if you’re in the mood for some morning grits and a cup of joe, now you’ve got options.

Sunday’s Crawfest at The Brig will be a big one

Feel like feasting on as much crawfish as you can handle? Get to The Brig in Venice on Sunday, as $65 general admission tickets get you all you can eat seafood and all you can drink beer. That’s pretty fantastic, and it’s also being done in part to support the Abbot Kinney Festival Association Grant Program.

Popcorn Chicken on Sawtelle

Sawtelle Japantown's Chicken Dijon is no more, and in its place comes Popcorn Chicken. The Taiwanese export already has locations in Irvine and Riverside, but plans to make the jump to LA sometime this summer. 2224 Sawtelle Blvd.
