It’s high time Eater checked in on The Halal Guys in Koreatown. Following the East Coast brand’s big announcement that they were putting stakes down right in the middle of Los Angeles, it’s been (mostly) quiet, with the team working tirelessly to bring the former Numero Uno off Wilshire up to the task of handling lots (and lots) of new customers. Remember: The Halal Guys already have strong representation in Orange County and down in Long Beach.
As you can see above, the work is almost done. Tiling is up and equipment is coming together, though there’s lots of big and small stuff left to do — like finish the ceiling and the counter and all that, no big deal. Still it’s a far cry from the space back in January, even if a few construction hiccups have pushed their hopeful mid-summer opening back by a couple of months.
Now for the big news: The Halal Guys are hoping to open as soon as next month. There’s no set official date, but there will be soon, and right now it’s looking like things are targeting up for mid-July, approximately four weeks from now. That’s really great news for a growing Koreatown, which is riding a recent wave of new additions an upcoming projects, from the highly anticipated Here’s Looking at You to the nearby food court/vendor market going in on Wilshire later this year. It’s a good time to be eating in Koreatown, and it’s only going to get better.
