Big late day news from Eric Greenspan’s camp, as the popular chef has decided to expand his popular Maré concept out to Santa Monica. The new location, which will open just next week, sets up shop inside the former JiRaffe on Santa Monica Boulevard.

That’s big news for Santa Monica folks, as Greenspan’s Maré has become a Melrose dining favorite thanks to its affordable neighborhood-friendly menu, beautiful mostly outdoor dining space, and — of course — the cooking from Greenspan himself. A full dinner menu is below.

It’s also a big coup for Midcourse Hospitality, whose partners include Jim Hustead and James Moon. Not only did they manage to pull Nick Erven away from Fundamental in Westwood not long ago, but now they’re focusing on a larger expansion across town.

The plan for Maré Santa Monica is to expand into lunch service sometime later this summer, while simultaneously locking in a larger wine and cocktail list under bartender Jeronimo Medina. Otherwise, expect much the same concept, with its largely Mediterranean feel and relaxed vibe. Look for Maré to open in Santa Monica sometime mid-next week.
