You know times are changing in Los Angeles when Dean & Deluca starts sniffing around. That’s exactly what they’ve been doing of late, with their proposed first Southern California location already in the works. Now comes word that they’re heading into Los Angeles proper, with a flagship location right on Melrose.

According to a new story put out by WWD (subscription required), Dean & Deluca is indeed coming for the heart of L.A., at the site of the former Bodhi Tree Bookstore, which closed years ago and has since been demolished. Funnily enough, that puts Dean & Deluca on the same block as the ever-busy Urth Cafe, and across the street from a Le Pain Quotidien. Not far away are coffee options like Assembly and Verve, too.

So what will make Dean & Deluca stand out? Their sleek layout and maximalist approach, likely. Less a haven for hipsters to congregate and more a spot for grab-and-go foot traffic, the company is also surely to be helped by their brand recognition — considering its many international and domestic outlets. There’s no word on when the space will officially come online, and Dean & Deluca have yet to respond to requests for comment.
