Looks like another big new tenant for Universal CityWalk, as Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville will be moving in sometime soon.

The Margaritaville invasion has mostly flown under the radar, apparently, before getting dropped in as an aside to a Curbed story about Universal’s hope to lure in a more local clientele. As the piece eloquently points out, adding in big brands like Margaritaville probably isn’t the way to do that, but still.

Over on the Inside Universal blog, the news has been around for much longer, with an initial post about the expansion dating back to March. The restaurant and live entertainment venue will take over the shuttered Jillian’s, which was a sort of all-around option on the eastern edge of the CityWalk, with room for food, drink, billiards, and even bowling.

This will be the first California location for Margaritaville, with the next closest outlet in Las Vegas. The concept also joins big out-of-state brands like Voodoo Doughnut, who were announced with much more fanfare just last month. There are a few local concepts to be had though, like Ludo Lefebvre’s fried chicken option LudoBird.

Papering is already up at the forthcoming Margaritaville location inside Universal CityWalk, but don’t expect an overnight arrival — given all the neon lighting they’ve got to hang inside, the place might take a while.
