Umami Burger's finally moving in Santa Monica
Though it's been announced for practically years now, the Umami Burger at Fred Segal is finally closed up and ready to move to its new location on the corner of Broadway and 5th. The opening date for the new Umami Burger is June 20.
Bill Clinton tears through the Southland
Former POTUS Bill Clinton blazes through Los Angeles ahead of Tuesday's California presidential primary, and he hit two important local spots. One was In-N-Out in the Valley, where President #42 ordered up 50 burgers for his entourage (note that Clinton is vegan, which means he can...enjoy the fries at In-N-Out). Second was a stop at Venice's Baby Blues BBQ. Best part of that gig — Clinton was shaking hands with fans despite sticky barbecue sauce fingers.
An update on the Beverly Center
Urbanize.LA is on the case of the under-construction Beverly Center, with more specific details on what's to come. That includes a smart parking system (plus new valet space), lots more skylights, and all the usual restaurant bells and whistles, including Michael Mina's upcoming food court project.
What to know about Running Goose
Per LA Weekly, it seems that Running Goose in Hollywood has found its groove. Not to be confused with the short-lived Blind Weasel on La Brea, the Goose is a casual gastropub for the neighborhood on Cahuenga. It's just steps from Birch and across from meatball haven Ball & Chain, but has found its own niche — and is now turning out some seriously good food.
Connie & Ted’s turns three
If you can believe it, Connie & Ted’s is three years old. The seafood stalwart in West Hollywood is celebrating with a three-course deal all month long, where $25 (or $40 at dinner) nets you a a starter, main, and dessert. Those include items like the lobster roll, clam chowder, and the wonderful Hook burger.
Salt & Straw's wild new flavor set
Vanguard ice creamery Salt & Straw is making fermented ice cream flavors for the summer season, writes LA Weekly. Flavors include avocado and fermented carrot custard with cardamom (in a super hipster collaboration with SQIRL's Jessica Koslow), as well as cacao nibs with red miso for something slightly more down to earth. Available at all scoop shops until the end of June.
More tasty vegetarian food for the Westside
Flower Child, which Eater reported on last month, has a projected opening date of June 14, according to roving Westside reporter Toddrickallen. The Fox Restaurant Concepts brand (North Italia, True Food Kitchen) plans a menu of organic, locally sourced, and additive free cuisine. It's like cat nip for veggie-starved Westsiders, which is always a solid business plan.
