Valley locals mourned the loss of three decade-old Humphrey Yogart back in March, as the longtime frozen dessert spot was forced to move on following a disagreement with new landlords at their Sherman Oaks address. Now there’s new life, with an update coming from the Sheftel family that not only is Humphrey Yogart coming back, but they’re staying right in Sherman Oaks. It’s the location that will surprise you.
Instead of landing a nondescript outlet somewhere far off from their original location, Humphrey Yogart will be setting up shop inside the Gelson’s on Van Nuys Boulevard. Yep, the very same Gelson’s grocery store that shares a parking lot with the original Humphrey Yogart.
News of the resurrection only started trickling out yesterday, with the company’s Facebook page telling the world that they’re staying (basically) put. The logistics of it all are still being tweaked, but here's what to expect: Humphrey Yogart will no longer serve any sandwiches, salads, or other non dessert-y stuff. Instead, they'll be taking over a very small space inside the grocery store and only doing their blended soy and frozen yogurts, plus ice cream, smoothies, and shakes. They also won't be able to serve any dry goods or grocery products of any kind, naturally.
Though perhaps a truncated version compared to what regulars were used to, it’s still nice to see a small-time success story like Humphrey Yogart get back on its feet. Folks have enjoyed the brand for years, and it seems that after some back and forth they’ll be able to do so again.
Expect Humphrey Yogart to land sometime in late summer. Can't wait that long? Console yourself in the meantime with the below adorable semi-instructional video showing off the company's wares from back in 2012.
