Unit 120's new permanent tenant is the Golden Boys
Looks like another pop-up is moving into Unit 120 for a while, as the Golden Boys Chinese duo is taking over Thursday nights at Alvin Cailan's Chinatown restaurant incubator. Chefs Adam Midkiff and Hunter Pritchett are kicking it off with a party and a dinner tonight, and you can jump after a few tickets right this way.
Ice cream galore at Smorgasburg
Downtown food fair hit Smorgasburg is hosting an ice cream social this coming Sunday, with options from some of the city’s best frozen dessert treats on offer. Salt & Straw will be there, as will Jeni’s, Sweet Rose, Smitten, Peddler’s, Wanderlust, Sprinkles, Little Spoon Frozen Pudding and more. Hours run 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Melisse hits 17 years in Santa Monica
It's hard to believe that fine dining stalwart Melisse is 17 years old already, but so it goes. To celebrate, the restaurant is doing a $185 tasting menu tonight that includes a vast array of Josiah Citrin's hits, from the egg caviar on down. Otherwise, the restaurant's $99 dineLA menu kicks off next week.
JP's DTLA now serving up Historic Core
There's a new upscale option for lunch in Downtown's Historic Core, as JP's takes over the upstairs of gay bar Precinct during the week. Working a truncated service from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the restaurant is turning out white tablecloth meals featuring handmade pastas, escargot, and more — plus there's a full bar. 357 S. Broadway.
Buy yourself a brewery and barbecue restaurant with a ton of history
Feel like getting out of town and making the big move to the mountains? Curbed LA says it's more possible now than ever, thanks to this Julian, CA-based barbecue restaurant and small brewery that's based in Eastern San Diego County. It's actually a pretty important place, as it's being sold off by one Vince Marsaglia, a Pizza Port co-owner and co-founder of Lost Abbey. Yep, you'd be buying his brewing equipment too.

Longtime Orange County chef Eric Samaniego is heading up to Long Beach, as the former Little Sparrow chef in Santa Ana — who appeared on the Bravo television show Best New Restaurant alongside the team from Union in Pasadena — steps in as chef de cuisine at the popular Michael's in Long Beach.
Monday night dinner hits L.A. Chapter
As an antidote to the many restaurants that are closed on Mondays, L.A. Chapter at the Ace Hotel in Downtown is now running a rotating $25 three-course meal that includes $7 glasses of wine. Chef Ricardo Valdes does different options every week, and they run the menu on their Instagram page.
